AHMEDABAD: A 27-year-old woman from Vejalpur could not accept the fact that her boyfriend could actually block her number and decided to end her life by jumping into the Sabarmati River on Thursday morning. Luckily, revellers at the Riverfront saw the woman approaching the railing and managed to stop her on time.
A team of Abhayam 181 helpline too arrived at the spot and when they asked her the reason behind the drastic step, she said that she had made two calls to her boyfriend’s cellphone which went unanswered. When she attempted for the third time, he blocked her. “The rejection, especially on Valentine’s Day, shocked the woman very much leading her to attempt suicide,” said a counsellor with Abhayam helpline.
According to sources, the woman had left home in the morning, without informing anyone. Her parents were also anxious about her whereabouts. The woman said she had come in contact with the youth recently on a social media platform and were exchange messages regularly with him. They also met a few times, she added. Enraged by his rejection, the dejected woman did not consider any outcome of her action before approaching the Riverfront. Officials said the Sabarmati Riverfront (W) police, along with the woman’s parents and kin were called to the spot where she was counselled and sent back home after she agreed not to take such hasty decisions any more.
