New road to decongest CA, Empress Mall Rd
TNN | Feb 15, 2019, 03:17 ISTNagpur: Those coming out of the east gate of Nagpur railway station and going towards Itwari or Mahal area will not face traffic jams, thanks to a new road planned by the NMC. The 15m road would start from the east gate of the railway station and, via Empress Mill area, will go up to Rajwada Palace Hotel in Ganjipeth.
The survey of land inside Empress Mills for construction of the 388m road was done on Thursday by officials of City Survey, Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) town planning department and Maharashtra State Textile Corporation (MSTC). “This proposed road will decongest the already congested Central Avenue,” said BJP corporator Dayashankar Tiwari.
Tiwari said the existing road from east Nagpur which connects Rajwada Palace Hotel is very narrow. “Had we widened this road, as many as 167 properties would have been affected,” he said. “The road was proposed in 2004 but the proposal had been lying on the back burner since then. It was given impetus by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The survey will be over February 16,” he said.
MSTC has 14 acre land in Bajeria where a textile zone has been proposed. The road will take up 1.5 acre. This stretch will be handed over to the NMC. “The tender for the textile zone has been floated. The last date is February 22,” said Tiwari.
