City may get more parks laid on its vacant lands if the proposal cleared by the GHMC standing committee on Thursday goes as planned.
A random discussion at the standing committee meeting revealed existence of large plots of government lands in various zones, which could be converted into parks.
Zonal commissioners came up with details of more than 20 vacant lands in their jurisdiction, which made Commissioner M. Dana Kishore take an impromptu decision to use them for theme parks.
The committee cleared a proposal to lay a minimum of three major theme parks in each zone. Details of vacant lands of three acres in extent would be presented before the next standing committee meeting, said the GHMC in a statement.
Bringing the staff of Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) under two categories of officers and workers, and dividing them into five packages for wage disbursement were approved by the standing committee.
The staff, constituting 420 workers and 100 officers, are to be divided under the heads of Disaster Response Forces 1 &2, Lake Protection Force, Enforcement and office staff, and tenders would be called for each package of wage disbursal.
Salaries for the workers have been revised to ₹17,000 while those for officers have been fixed at ₹20,000.
One more major proposal cleared was to hire two mobile Reverse Osmosis units for treating the leachate flowing from the Jawaharnagar dump site into the Malkaram lake, at an expenditure of ₹11 crore.
Proposals were also cleared for construction of a storm water drain between Amberpet 6 No. junction and Kala bridge with ₹3.85 crore, and from Bathukamma Kunta to 6 No. Junction with ₹5.2 crore, besides remodelling RCC Box Drain Jahangir Nagar in Charminar circle with ₹4.5 crore expenditure.
Footpath, service road and storm water drain with ₹5.18 crore near Uppuguda Road Under Bridge, and service road from Lakshma Reddy Garden to Owaisi Hospital in connection with a flyover to be constructed too were among the proposals approved.
A proposal of ₹5.8 crore for revival of chicken and meat market blocks in Moazzamjahi Market and jack arch ceiling and flooring inside the market was cleared by the committee.
Wages of ₹5.32 crore for the 329 lake guards appointed on outsourcing basis, and extension of services for 100 civil engineering graduates hired for Town Planning wing by a year were also cleared.
One more proposal was to seek technical support from the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) for better management of sanitation programmes in the city.
