17-year-old girl raped, murdered in coffee estate
TNN | Feb 14, 2019, 23:08 ISTMadikeri: Two coffee estate labourers have been arrested for raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl, who was missing since February 4.
Coffee estate workers Ranjit and Sandeep, natives of West Bengal, were arrested on Wednesday after the student’s body was found in a decomposed state. Police said that Sandeep collided with Rajit to rape the girl after she resisted his advances.
The duo raped the girl, daughter of coffee estate labourers, before strangling her using a rope, said SP Suman D Pannekar. The body was also found in a coffee estate on Wednesday.
After a missing person’s case was filed, Pannekar formed three teams under the supervision of DSP Sundar Raj. Ranjit and Sandeep were held on suspicion of involvement in the case. Upon interrogation, they confessed to raping the girl.
Statement from a relative of the victim led police to Ranjit and Sandeep. He told police that the girl was in conversation before she went missing. During the conversation, the girl suddenly shouted and the conversation ended. She was near a stream close to a coffee estate when the incident took place. The watchman of the estate confirmed that he had seen the girl near the stream.
