VMC to provide free sanitary pads in schools

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) kicked off free distribution of sanitary napkins to girls studying in 10 primary schools run by the civic body. The VMC has installed vending machines in the schools to distribute the sanitary pads.

The first vending machine in the series was inaugurated at the Stri Adhyapan Mandir on Thursday by mayor Dr Jigisha Sheth. The remaining vending machines will be put up in the schools run by the civic body.

Along with the vending machines, the civic body will also be providing incinerators called ‘ashuddhinashak’ to destroy the pads. The civic body wants to cover around 100 schools under the project in the coming days.

No coins are needed to operate the vending machines as the VMC is supplying the pads free of cost to municipal schools. It plans to do so even in government aided schools in the long run. The machines are easy to operate and need little maintenance.tnn
