NAME: MADYSON MEDEIROS

SCHOOL/YEAR OF GRADUATION: CASE/2019

SPORTS: Volleyball, basketball, softball

An athlete for all seasons, Madyson Medeiros flashes that infectious smile one second and has the eye of the tiger the next.  She enjoys playing sports and she plays with passion. Not surprisingly she plays the blood and guts positions in volleyball (libero) and softball (catcher), and in basketball she takes her defense quite seriously. She was named The Herald News Softball Player of the Year for 2018 and you can expect her to contend for that high honor again this spring. Outgoing and friendly, Medeiros is always a good choice to go to for post-game video clips, or for an impromptu Christmas song video. Knowing that, we figured she'd also be a natural for our Sports Spotlight Q&A. She didn't let us down.

Herald News: Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

Madyson Medeiros: My favorite professional athlete is Julian Edelman. He is not the biggest athlete, like me, yet he always finds a way to make the play better. No matter if he’s being tackled by a group of defensive linemen, or just one safety, he knows the game very well. This is something I admire in all athletes; however, in my eyes, Julian Edelman exceeds this level of athleticism.

HN: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

MM: In ten years, I hope to either be graduating from medical school or working in a hospital already as a physician’s assistant.

HN: What has been your biggest moment as a high school athlete?

MM: My biggest moment as a high school athlete was winning the Division 3 volleyball state championship my sophomore year. Although I did not play in that game, there are so many memories and lessons I learned that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. That group of girls is a group of people I will never forget. This moment shaped a new perspective for me on sports and on life.

HN: When not playing high school sports, how do you spend your time?

MM: When I am not playing high school sports, I love to go out with my friends for some dinner or to the movies. I also like to watch tv shows like "Game of Thrones" and "Grey’s Anatomy". I enjoy snowboarding very much as well.

HN: If you were the principal of your school, what one change would you make?

MM: If I were the principal of my school, I would place a Gatorade vending machine in the weight room for student athletes to access whenever they pleased. :)

HN: What do you hope people will say about you when your playing days are over?

MM: When my playing days are over, I want people to be able to say that they were inspired. When it comes to playing sports, I don’t only work to improve my individual skill, but my teammates’ as well. A younger girl I know who has played softball for a while messaged me on Instagram not too long ago saying how much she admired me as a player, and how she’s always looked up to me. That is what I play for. I play for the little girl who wants to play too.

HN: What is your favorite subject in school and why?

MM: My favorite subject in school is Human Anatomy and Physiology. I find the human body to super interesting, and I want to pursue a career in medicine after college.

HN: If you won a million dollars, what would be your first purchase?

MM: If I won a million dollars, my first purchase would be a trip to Italy.

HN: Tell us something most people don't know about you.

MM: Most people do not know that I don’t necessarily like the beach that much, and would rather spend a vacation in the mountains of Maine snowboarding, instead of going on a vacation to the Caribbean.

HN: What is your favorite dinner meal?

MM: My favorite dinner meal is any kind of sushi.

HN: What is your favorite book?

MM: My favorite book is "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

HN: What is your favorite video game?

MM: I don’t really play video games, but if anything, I like "Just Dance".

HN: How long could you function without your smart phone?

MM: I don’t necessarily use my phone a lot. I could go a decent amount of time without it. One time I spent a whole weekend in Maine without it because it crashed!
