If all political parties in Tamil Nadu decide to face the Lok Sabha election without any alliance, the BJP will also be ready to go it alone, party leader Tamilisai Soundararajan said.
Participating in a two-wheeler rally organised by the party’s women’s wing here on Wednesday with the slogan “Modi Again”, Ms. Soundararajan said forming an alliance was not just a show of strength.
“We need to beat the opposition alliance and not allow the votes meant for like-minded parties to get split,” she said, when asked why the BJP, which had been touting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s achievements, was not looking to face the polls on its own. She said going for an alliance was only but natural, given the “present situation”. “It is a must and is unavoidable,” she said.
When asked about the party’s national general secretary Muralidhar Rao’s statement that a coalition in Tamil Nadu had been finalised, she said details like seat sharing and the seats which the party would be contesting will be disclosed in due course. “As of now, the coalition talks are going in the right direction,” she said.
Postponement of rallies
The BJP leader said the public meetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were postponed because they were preoccupied. Party leaders Amit Shah, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Smriti Irani will be addressing public meetings in various places in the coming days, she said.
“After the Prime Minister’s visit to Madurai and Tirupur, the party has been growing in strength,” she added.
