28-year-old man kills wife for refusing sex, arrested

PATIALA: Sangrur police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of strangulating his wife to death and then filing a missing complaint with the local police. The body of the woman was found dumped in the fodder storeroom of her husband’s house. The police also booked his brother, father and mother on charges of conspiring.

Lovepreet Singh of Nagala village in Sangrur district on Sunday filed a complaint with the police that his wife Sukhdeep Kaur was missing. He, along with his brother Sumandeep Singh, father Karamjit Singh and mother Satvir Kaur, even launched a campaign on the social media by sharing Sukhdeep’s picture, along with the missing message.

However, the police spotted some discrepancies in the statements being given by the family members. As they could not pinpoint the time and place from where and how Sukhdeep went missing, the cops got suspicious and started looking for clues. They finally got cracking and managed to find her body, which had been dumped in the storeroom containing dry cattle fodder in the house of Lovepreet.

According to sources, Sukhdeep and Lovepreet were not on cordial terms and she would often refuse to have sex with him, which became the bone of contention between the two. On Saturday night, the two got into a quarrel, following which the accused strangulated her to death and them dumped the body in the storeroom.

Jagbir Singh, SHO, said, “The two had been married about three years back and even had a son. Of late, the two had not been keeping good relations and they would often fight over trivial issues.” He further said that the relatives told them that Lovepreet was seeking treatment from a pschyiatrist and was on medication. The four were arrested following registration of a case against them. The body was shifted to the government hospital for a post-mortem examination.
