One of Australia's most powerful men shows his softer side with a throwback picture for his wife on Valentine's Day

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has marked Valentine's Day by sharing a barely recognisable old photo of himself in a romantic pose with his wife Jenny Warren.

Mr Morrison uploaded the image of himself and his wife to Instagram on Thursday morning, alongside a heartfelt tribute to his other half.

The couple appeared to be attending a swanky event, with the now-PM dressed to impress in a dinner suit, while his wife wore classic black attire.

The Prime Minister showed his sentimental side to his wife, who he's dated since he was 16.

'Happy Valentine's Day Jen. From when we first started dating back in 1985 in Year 12 to now.

'Forever thankful. Love you,' Mr Morrison penned.  

Social media users liked the picture of the loving couple, who now had two children together and have been married for 26 years.

'Really looking awesome sir,' one user wrote.

Another added: 'Have a happy day Mr Prime Minister and First Lady'.

'Cute couple award right there,' a third said.

Some, however, made politically angled comments. 

'I agree with all you do,' one wrote. 

 'Call an election,' another demanded.
