Pits dug up for water pipes left open, MCG faces flak
TNN | Feb 13, 2019, 07:54 ISTGurgaon: Residents of Sector 7 Extension have accused the MCG of digging up roads and footpaths in the area for civic work and leaving it midway. The corporation recently started the construction of a road and laying of new water supply lines in the sector but stopped work suddenly, residents alleged.
“The upgrade was a long-pending demand, as our roads and water pipelines are in a shambles. We approached MCG two years ago and they finally started work now. MCG staffers have dug up the old roads, especially in three lanes —in front of house Nos. 1549 to 1537, 1481 to 1493 and 1401 to 1392. This has left no space for residents to even walk, let alone drive,” said RWA general secretary Chandra Bhan.
Residents said the digging has damaged existing water lines. “In the lane near house No. 1401, a lot of water has accumulated as the water line under the road has been damaged. MCG will build the road on top of it, but what will happen to the leaking water? In the other two lanes as well, new lines are being laid by an MCG-appointed contractor but there is no clarity on what will happen if water starts leaking there. We are requesting MCG to get the water pipes checked so that we don’t have to dismantle the road again if the leakage affects its strength,” said Lokesh Ahuja, president of the sector’s RWA.
The corporation left work mid-way some days ago, residents alleged. “We were told that the pipes are not available at present, so we will have to wait for some time. We tried calling the MCG officials concerned, but they aren’t receiving our calls. They seem to have gone incommunicado without telling us what will happen,” said Ramesh, another resident.
A senior MCG official said, “The matter will be looked into.”
