PM Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha speech: Highlights

- Addressing the last session of Lok Sabha session before the 2019 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra highlighted the achievements of his government and hailed the members of Parliament for delivering one of its most productive terms. Here is a look at the highlights of the Prime Minister's speech.
* India has made its mark on digital map. The world looks at us differently because we are a strong majority government. When I travel they don't look at Modi or Sushma Swaraj they look at a strong government.
* Few tried to fly planes but they couldn't touch the heights of democracy. The PM was referring to Congress MPs flying paper planes in the Lok Sabha to protest the Rafale defence deal.
* They warned of an earthquake but we didn't see any: PM Modi took a dig at Rahul Gandhi's 2016 remark who had then said that if he is allowed to speak in Parliament over demonetisation there will be an earthquake.
* Mulayam Singh Yadav has already praised the government. He has blessed our government: PM Modi
* Several sessions in this Lok Sabha had good productivity. This is a very good sign. I appreciate M Venkaiah Naidu ji and late Ananth Kumar ji for their service as minister of parliamentary affairs. While Naidu became the vice president of India, Kumar is no more.
* India has become sixth largest economy, is close to becoming $5 trillion economy.
* Eight of 17 sessions of this Lok Sabha had over 100 per cent productivity,overall productivity over 85 per cent.
* India's self-confidence is at an all-time high. I consider this to be a very positive sign because such confidence gives an impetus to development.
* The world is discussing global warming and India made an effort in the form of the International Solar Alliance to mitigate this menace.
* It is this Lok Sabha that has passed stringent laws against corruption and black money. It is this Lok Sabha that passed the GST. The GST process revealed the spirit of cooperation and bipartisanship.
* The 16th Lok Sabha has the highest the largest number of women MPs.
* It was in this house that I learnt the difference between ‘gale lagna’ (to hug somebody) and ‘gale padna’ (to pile on somebody). (The Prime Minister was obliquely referencing to Rahul Gandhi who had hugged him on the floor of the House during a discussion on no-confidence motion against the government in the monsoon session of Parliament last year.)
* I was also a witness to winking in the house. ('aankhon ki gustakhiya)
* Michhami Dukkham ("may all the evil that has been done be fruitless")
