LUDHIANA: The residents of various colonies falling in East constituency are facing tough time due to a choked sewerage system. On Wednesday, the councillors from various wards flooded the mobile number of civic body commissioner KP Brar with pictures of sewerage water in streets. It was over this issue that MLA Sanjay Talwar had argued with mayor Balkar Sandhu in the house meeting on February 4.
However, the tussle between the MLA and the mayor came to end with the intervention of Congress MP Ravneet Bittu, but residents did not get desired relief. Councillor from ward number 15 Kanchan Malhotra and her husband Satish Malhotra alleged that officials were not concerned about public issues and despite repeated requests they were not clearing the choking of sewerage system.
Harvinder Singh, husband of councillor from ward number 7, also made similar complaint. Former councillor from ward number 5 Varinder Sehgal said he has also highlighted the choked sewerage problem of areas on social media so that everyone should be aware of officials apathetic attitude.
Meanwhile, MLA Sanjay Talwar said there is lack of sanitation staff and sewermen in these wards and despite requests their demands are not being fulfilled.
However, civic body commissioner KP Brar said she has forwarded the complaints to concerned officials and these will be resolved.
