Puducherry, Puducherry Traders Federation (PTF) on Wednesday urged the government to keep pending the ban order on plastic, to be implemented from March one, and constitute a committee to look into it.
Talking to news persons, Federation President Sivasankaran said let the committee decide which types of plastic should be banned and the modality to implement the same while, ensuring that the business was not affected.Next, steps has to be taken by the government on the recommendations of the committee, he added.
He said that the central government has given time till 2022 to impose a ban on plastic and if a uniform act is there all over the country, the traders here are ready to accept the same. Till then, ban on plastic in Puducherry is not necessary, he added.
Mr Sivasankaran said already due to GST and demonetization, the traders suffered a lot and when they are expecting a bright future, the ban on plastic was announced.
At the same time, there is no ban on corporate sector using plastic, he said, adding that if plastic ban was imposed the small and medium traders will have to leave their business.
