Cabinet approves draft Bill for amending Kerala Municipality Act, 1994

In another reshuffle of bureaucrats within a week, the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday appointed Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Coastal Police, Sudesh Kumar as State Transport Commissioner.

Additional Director General of Police K. Padmakumar, who is holding the post of State Transport Commissioner, has not been given any new posting. Official sources said separate posting would be given to Mr. Padmakumar later.

Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources, Vishwas Mehta has been given additional charge of the Chairman of Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Limited.

Kerala cadre IAS officer N. Prashant, who has returned after Central deputation, has been posted as Managing Director, Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Limited.

Common service

The draft Bill for amending the Kerala Municipality Act of 1994 was approved by the Cabinet.

The Bill aims at the formation of a common service by including the Panchayat, Rural Development, Urban Affairs, LSG Engineering Service, and Municipal Common Service functioning under the Local Self-Government Department.

The Cabinet also decided to provide ₹9.4 crore as margin money for ration shop owners for the 89,540 tonnes of rice sanctioned by the Centre for flood relief and distributed through ration shops.
