Two electrocuted during idol immersion procession in Ballia
tnn | Feb 14, 2019, 03:08 ISTVaranasi: Two youths were electrocuted while over 10 others suffered burn injuries when a tractor came in contact with high tension wire during Saraswati idol immersion procession near Purvi Bhavan Tola village under Bairiya police station of Ballia district on Wednesday.
DIG Azamgarh range Vijay Bhushan confirmed the death of two youths in the incident and said that all injured were rushed to hospital for treatment with the help of local residents.
After the end of Saraswati Puja celebration in Purvi Bhavan Tola village the villagers carried out immerssion procession on tractor trolley. They had tied loudspeakers with the help of steel rods to play music during the procession. While heading towards banks of the Ganga, the steel rods came in contact with high tension wire.
While Mayank Singh (18) and Chhotu Kumar Singh (20) died on the spot, other youths including Chandan Singh (18), Krishna (17), Golu Singh (18), Anand Singh (22) and Rajnish Singh (20) suffered serious burn injuries. All the equipment and articles on the tractor were gutted.
The Bairiya police and locals rushed the injured to a local hospital from where they were referred to district hospital. Following a sharp deterioration in the condition of Rajnish the doctors referred him to Trauma Centre of BHU.
