The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Tuesday slammed the Lt. Governor for implementing the helmet rule without the consent of an elected government.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, DMK leader in the Legislative Assembly, R. Siva said the implementation of the helmet rule has brought to an end the question about the pattern of governance that prevailed in the Union Territory. The decision of Bedi to implement the rule overlooking a direction of the Chief Minister to the police to create awareness before making it mandatory had only confirmed that it was rule of the Lt. Governor.
The style of functioning of L-G was a threat to democracy and established rules and principles. The party would provide legal aid to those who have been served summons for not wearing helmet. The decision to implement the rule had caused immense trouble to the people, he said.
