Mumbai: In a joint operation, the Thane and Kalwa police have busted a gang of three thieves arrested for stealing 21 bikes over the past two months. The accused had stolen two wheelers from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. The bikes were worth Rs 8,25,000.
The accused identified as Raza Mobib Shaikh, 20, a resident of West Bengal does odd jobs, Nana Bablu Pathan, 25, a resident of Navi Mumbai and Prashant Juvle, 23, a mechanic by profession and also a Thane resident. The accused used to break the lock of the bikes using duplicate keys and after stealing it they would sell the bikes at around Rs 15,000 to 20,000.
“We studied the cases and had gathered closed circuit television (CCTV) footages too. Based on that teams were formed. Shaikh and Juvle were arrested red-handed while stealing bikes. While Shaikh was held from CIDCO area near Thane railway station, Juvle was held from Kalwa”, D Swami, deputy commissioner of police from Zone I, said.
Swami added, “we suspect that the accused are involved in other vehicles stealing cases. The investigations are on. We are checking with the chassis number as per that we will alert the owners. We have solved 21 cases of bike theft and are detecting more cases.”
