2019 SSC Tuatara 1,750HP Behemoth Elegantly Cruises The Road In Official Video

While the world was waiting for Bugatti to come up with a Chiron Super Sport and perhaps use it to reconquer the top speed record, SSC was busy working on the new Tuatara.

It was unveiled last year at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and to put it simple, it’s a surface-to-surface missile. The hypercar uses a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which produces 1,350 horsepower (1,368 PS / 1,006 kW) on 91 octane fuel.

Fill the tank with E85 and the output will increase to a whopping 1,750 hp (1,774 PS / 1,305 kW). The immense power, drag coefficient of just 0.279 and lightweight construction should allow the new Tuatara to hit 300 mph (483 km/h). Of course, SSC are not the only ones to have this ambition, as both Koenigsegg and Hennessey are eager to break the 300 mph barrier with a production car.

The current record is held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which posted an unbelievable 284.55 mph (457.94 km/h) towards the end of 2017.

Now, SSC has yet to reveal the full specs of the 2019 Tuatara, but testing should end in May of this year. If nothing interferes with their plan, then the first examples should be delivered in August, so we’re not that far away from finding out how quick this car is to 62 mph (100 km/h) and how much it costs.

In the meantime, SSC launched another official video, which is all about “winding roads, rolling hills and the alluring curves of the Tuatara”, as per the caption. The clip is only 25 seconds long and can be viewed below.
