Daltonganj: The district administration has started a drive to verify licensed firearms in Palamu ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. In the last three weeks, about 45 police stations and outposts in the district have verified about 400 of 1,750 licensed firearms. The drive is expected to contine for a few more weeks.

Palamu deputy commissioner Shantanu Kumar Agrahari, who is also the the district arms magistrate, has asked licensed arms holders to cooperate with police during the verification process.

Palamu SP Indrajeet Mahatha said: “I have asked thana officials to visit the houses of licensed arms holders for verification. We often find that license holders live at some other place than the address mentioned in their applications.” Last week, the police also asked charge-sheeted persons to furnish personal bonds declaring they will not disturb peace during the election.
