CHANDIGARH: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday described the budget speech of Punjab governor V P Singh Badnore as “bereft of reality and full of rhetoric”.
AAP said the state government had failed to keep promises it made before coming to power.
The leader of opposition (LoP) in Punjab assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, accused the government of misleading the governor by hiding the ground reality on public-centric issues. Cheema termed the governor’s speech on the state government’s loan waiver to farmers as the “biggest lie”, saying the government backtracked on its promise of full loan waiver to farmers.
Cheema said more than 900 farmers and farm labourers had committed suicide in the past two years. He added that while the government had been accusing the preceding SAD-BJP government of the financial mess, it was following the footsteps of the Badals.
Cheema also criticised the government over government employees’ issues of nonpayment of salary and delays in regularisation of service. The leader of opposition claimed that law and order was deteriorating in the state, pointing to the gangrape in Ludhiana on Sunday night.
Cheema added that CM Amarinder Singh was not serious about Punjab’s water share, transfer of Punjabi-speaking areas, and the state’s claim on Chandigarh.
