City police wake up isolated stretch under its jurisdiction
Payal Dhawan | TNN | Feb 13, 2019, 07:12 ISTLudhiana: Following the horrific gang rape incident at an isolated place at Issewal village which comes under Ludhiana rural police, the city police too have become active to check such incidents in the future.
Police have decided to set up a permanent checkpoint on the South City road and start patrolling in the area.
Importantly, city police too have jurisdiction on the same road, which lead to Issewal, till South City.
On Tuesday, additional deputy commissioner of police (3) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal and assistant commissioner of police (west) Gurpreet Singh visited the area and talked to tea vendors on the road to enquire about traffic in the evening and night hours.
The officials also got to know that several couples are seen there. Even on Tuesday vehicles of several couples were seem roaming around the area.
The police identified that 1.5 to 2km area remains isolated and felt the need for patrolling.
The officials will submit a report to the police commissioner.
Ludhiana police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “Although the incident occurred in the area of Ludhiana Rural police, it is our responsibility too to ensure security of citizens. Therefore, the ADCP-3 has been asked to visit the area and discuss the findings with me.”
“Besides, a permanent checkpoint has already been established at F-2 Raceway intersection. There will be regular patrolling in the area to ensure security of citizens,” he added.
Gill said, “Police are also planning to get CCTV cameras and warning signs installed on the road. But for that, I am waiting for ADCP’s report."
The ADCP Purewal said, "I have visited the area and findings will be discussed with the CP sir for further action.”
