Mahatma Gandhi University has decided to grant a fellowship of ₹12,000 a month to 100 of its full-time researchers. They will also be eligible for an annual contingency grant of ₹5,000.
The fellowship will be for a period of three years. On the third year, it will be granted on the basis of the research progress report, including articles published in referred journals and presentation in national or international conferences, to be submitted by the research guide.
Of the 197 candidates who applied for the fellowship, the university’s statutory selection committee recommended 100 on the
basis of seniority and merit. The list of selected candidates was published after receiving approval from the Syndicate.
Age limit
From the next academic year, the age-limit of candidates eligible for the fellowship will be determined in compliance with the UGC/CSIR and JRF norms.
Earlier last month, the research scholars of the university went on an indefinite strike citing an inordinate delay in the distribution of fellowships.
The strike was withdrawn after the authorities promised an increase in fellowship to MPhil and PhD students proportionate to the hike in UGC and CSIR fellowships.
