A shocking incident has come to light where a BMC probe has nailed three doctors from civic-run Hinduhriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari for botching up eye surgeries of seven patients. Out of the seven, three patients have turned blind.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the high-level BMC probe report was submitted to Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta on Tuesday. The committee who conducted the probe has asked to suspend licences of the three doctors. The three doctors have been identified as Dr Arun Chaudhary, the operating surgeon, and two postgraduate resident doctors, Dr Basir and Dr Kacha. The three doctors were serving as honorary doctors and were not employees of the BMC, so the municipal corporation has decided to share the probe report with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).
The BMC will also urge the MMC to suspend licences of the three doctors. The BMC will also be considering filing an FIR against those three doctors. According to the probe report, the instruments used on the patients were not put in the autoclave, a device that uses steam to sterilise equipment. The doctors instead used a saline wash. The report also added that the anaesthetist was not there. Instead, Dr Chaudhary was the one who gave anaesthesia.
