YAMUNANAGAR: A 23-year-old woman from a village near here allegedly killed herself by consuming a poisonous substance on Tuesday, following which police booked a man from her village for abetment to suicide.
The woman, who was in final year of BA, is said to have taken a poisonous substance. Her parents have alleged that the man had been stalking and harassing their daughter. The accused is yet to be arrested.
On Tuesday, the same man and three of his friends rushed the woman to a private hospital in a car around 1.30pm. The four men called the woman's parents from there and informed them that her condition was critical. Doctors at the first hospital asked the youths to take her to PGI as her condition was deteriorating. However, they rushed her to a second hospital and fled after dropping her there.
The woman's parents reached the first hospital after receiving information and they were guided to the second hospital from there.
The woman's mother said doctors at the second hospital also asked them to take the victim to the PGI. "We told doctors that we are poor and cannot take her there, and then took her to Yamunanagar civil hospital," she said.
Doctors at the civil hospital also referred the woman to PGI, Chandigarh, but the parents took her to another private hospital in Yamunanagar, where she died during treatment.
A police official said they had booked the accused under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
