Bhopal: Banners and hoardings obstructing traffic signals are causing major hassle to the commuters in the state capital. During the recent visit of Congress president Rahul Gandhi the entire city was packed with hoardings and cut-outs to welcome him.
Though big hoardings and cut-outs have been removed but small cut-outs on electric poles and signal poles continue to irk commuters. While crossing obstructed traffic signals the commuters have to assess activities of others before crossing the roads. Commuters on Link Road no-1 are especially affected with this problem.
Additional Commissioner (BMC) Kamal Solanki said, “We have already removed the cut-out and hoardings but problem is that they are in huge numbers so it takes time. We will look into matter and ensure that the obstruction around traffic signals is removed at the earliest.”
Madras HC ruling
Madras High Court has banned all kinds of banners and hoardings from major traffic signals in Tamil Nadu in 2017. The petition filed stating that several advertisements and hoardings put up in the vicinity of busy road intersections and traffic signals were in violation of the guidelines issued by the Indian Road Congress (IRC) as well as the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Licensing of Hoardings and Levy and Collection of Advertisement Tax Rules, 2003.
