Police plan to book ‘Lady Don’ Yashaswini under Goonda Act

BENGALURU: The city police are planning to book history-sheeter ‘Lady Don’ Yashaswini Gowda under the Goonda Act after she was repeatedly found accused in assault cases in and around the city. Two cases have been registered against Yashaswini within a week in North Division. If a case is registered against her under the Goonda Act, she will become the first woman booked in the city under the law. 

A senior police officer said two assault cases have been registered against Yashaswini but officials are yet to decide whether the South Division or the North Division police would book her under the Goonda Act. 
Yashaswini was allegedly involved in several assault and extortion cases in CK Achchukattu police station limits. Recently she was accused of attacking a 42-year-old woman, Lalitha, in Gangammanagudi. 

A police officer from Yeshwantpur sub-division said Yashaswini is absconding while her associate Govindraj came to the station and alleged that Lalitha had filed a false case. Meanwhile, one of the eyewitnesses, Aruna, was thrashed in front of the police station by Govindraj for giving a statement before the police. The case has been handed over to Malleshwaram police station for investigation. 

When contacted by TNIE for information about her possible arrest, police inspector Venkatachaliah from Gangammanagudi disconnected the call after hearing Yashaswini’s name.  Yashaswini did not answer repeated phone calls made by The New Indian Express.

Known as ‘Lady Don’ or Muniyamma, Yashaswini is a history-sheeter in Basavanagudi police station. She is the president of Sri Ram Sene’s state women’s unit. She has been booked for assault and for lending money at high interest rates (locally known as ‘meter baddi’), besides extortion and robbery. Few dare to file complaint against her.
