Subaru Bringing A Pair Of Electrified Models In Geneva

Subaru is planning to reveal two new models with a hybrid powertrain at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

The new Subaru models will be the company’s first hybrid vehicles to be offered in Europe, as the Crosstrek Hybrid is available only in North America and in Japan (under the name XV Hybrid).

Subaru’s laconic announcement didn’t include which models are going to be fitted with the new ‘e-boxer’ powertrain, nor whether they’ll be hybrid or plug-in hybrid. “There’s hybrid, then there’s the all-powerful e-Boxer. Discover hybrid, the Subaru way on 5th of March 2019”.

Current ‘e-boxer’ models in Subaru’s JDM lineup combine a 143hp 2.0-liter flat-four petrol engine with a 13hp electric motor while the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid in the US is powered by a 148hp plug-in hybrid powertrain that also features the 2.0-liter flat-four petrol engine.

If we had to take a guess, we would probably expect the Euro-spec hybrid versions of the Impreza/Crosstrek and even possibly the Forester. Subaru has stopped selling diesel-powered models in Europe altogether, so adding the new electrified models in the range is deemed as a necessity for the region.

Subaru will reveal its two new electrified models at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5.
