299 recruits pass out from the MIRC, Ahmednagar

AHMEDNAGAR: The Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre (MIRC), Ahmednagar, attested 299 recruits who took oath on Friday to be a loyal soldier of the Nation, at an impressive Passing Out Parade (POP) ceremony at Akhaura Drill Square.

The parade was reviewed by Lt Gen Surinder Singh, GOC-in-C Western Command and Col of the Brigade of the Guards in an impeccable ceremony carried out with military precision by the smartly attired and well turned out recruits who gave a fine display of their professional training and marching in front of the reviewing officer.

Keeping with age-old traditions they were administered the oath of allegiance and devotion to duty by the religious teachers. It was a proud moment for the parents and recruits who took the oath for dedicating their lives in the service of the nation.            

Recruits Jasvir Singh was awarded General Sundarji Gold Medal (Best Overall Recruit). Recruit Rohit Kumar received General LK D’Souza Silver Medal and Recruit Mohit Sapaya received General Pankaj Joshi Bronze Medal. 

Speaking on the occasion, the reviewing officer urged them to perform their duty with honesty and devotion. After the ceremonial POP, War Memorial service was also conducted to pay homage to the martyrs of Mech Inf Regt. This POP marked the end of recruit’s basic military training and the beginning of Young Soldier life who will now be undergoing their technical military training in advance weaponry and equipment before joining their respective combat units.  

The Mechanised Infantry Regiment was formed as a result of lessons learned in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, to give infantry battalions greater mobility, it was the mastermind of late Gen K Sundarji who had the foresight to cater the needs of a modern army.
