Gliders from the Indian Coast Guard Station, Beypore, held a demonstration on Saturday and Sunday on the use of motorised paragliding to reach out to people in distress at sea, especially for the search and rescue of mariners who are on the verge of drowning.

“Motorised paragliders manned by trained personnel will play a pivotal role in search and rescue of drowning mariners in the future,” said Commandant Francis Paul, who is the Commanding Officer of ICGS Beypore.

A large number of people, including tourists, were present during the demonstration. Gliders Mangesh Dighe and A.M. Salim participated in the demonstration held on the occasion of 43rd Raising Day of the Indian Coast Guard.

Almost 5,100 persons visited Indian Coast Guard ships ICGS Amartya and ICGS C-144 when they were open to civilian visitors at Beypore port on Saturday and Sunday, the release adds.
