MANDYA: With the general election is just round the corner, late actor-politician Ambareesh’s wife Sumalatha Ambareesh is keeping the guessing game on, leaving political pundits and the masses alike still pondering over her next move.
On her visit to the Adhichunchanagiri Mutt at Nagamangala in the district on Sunday, the multilingual actress termed it “purely apolitical”.

However, she kept her options open on continuing her family’s long-standing bond with the sugar bowl of the state. The district was dear to her late actor husband too, who had represented it both in the parliament and state assembly. Saying that “I am not a seasoned politician”, Sumalatha, however, hinted at the ongoing turmoil in her mind to take one of the most significant decisions in her life -- a political plunge. Moreover, she also reminded media persons, “Nowhere in the past, had Ambareesh said that his wife and son will embrace politics”.
Sumalatha reiterated, “I have been undergoing tremendous pressure from fans and followers of my late husband to contest elections from Mandya. However, I have not taken any decision yet in this regard, as I can arrive on a consensus only after holding talks with the people.”
“However, we are firm on keeping the bond intact with Mandya,” she clarified. When media persons sought her reaction on the recent outburst of a JD(S) MLC, who had berated her as a non-Vokkaliga, saying she is not a ‘Mandya gowdti’, she declined to comment. Earlier, during her visit to the mutt, she said, “It was purely an apolitical visit as I had been planning to meet the seer for the past two months, but did not get time.”
Her son Abhishek, who accompanied her, said, “The final decision rests with my mother. Whatever decision she takes, I will support her. We will honour the feelings of our fans.”
