Fake cops rob elderly couple

BERHAMPUR: An elderly couple was robbed by some miscreants posing as police personnel here on Sunday.The couple from Bhubaneswar, who were here to attend a marriage, were robbed of their gold ornaments near Kalyan Mandap in Jayaprakash Nagar.

Berhampur police is investigating the matter.
Rise in instances of robbery by miscreants posing as police personnel has emerged a cause of concern in the Silk City. The modus operandi of such robberies remains the same. It involves a group of miscreants reprimanding women and elderly persons for wearing gold ornaments. They then show their fake police identity cards and ask the victims to remove the ornaments. Once the victims comply with their instructions, the miscreants flee the spot with the ornaments.

Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said such incidents are being probed and efforts are on to identify the culprits from CCTV footage. He requested the people to refrain from entertaining such requests by strangers. “If people come across such fake cops, they should report the matter to the police or raise an alarm,” he said.
