Emma McCarthy, a real estate agent from Perth, arrived arm-in-arm with the star off- spinner to the annual event in Melbourne on Tuesday night.

'My Love, so proud,' she wrote alongside a picture of the pair, which showed them gazing into each other's eyes.

Earlier, Ms McCarthy shared a series of photos which showed her preparing for the event - and referred to her as a 'babe', an 'absolute angel' and a perfect '10'.

Ms McCarthy wore a dazzling silver dress by Pallas Couture with a thigh-high split, and sparkling diamond earrings by Linneys Jewellery.

The couple's appearance painted a starkly different picture to three years ago, when Lyon entered the ceremony with his then pregnant partner Mel Waring by his side.

Lyon and Ms Waring were recently seen patching up their relationship, taking their eldest daughter to her first day of school just under a week ago.

Lyon had been a front-runner for the prestigious award on Tuesday night after taking 49 wickets for the Test side in the past calendar year.

But Pat Cummins edged him out, confirming his status as Australia's premier Test paceman.

Lyon was named Test player of the year, Marcus Stoinis took out the ODI award and Glenn Maxwell claimed T20 honours.
