Andhra CM on day-long hunger strike, demands special status for the state

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu sat-on a day-long hunger strike in Delhi, on Monday, demanding special category status for the state and fulfilment of other commitments made by the Modi-led Central government at the time of state’s bifurcation.

In his strike under the banner of ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’, Andhra CM said, “We are seeking justice. We are a part of the country. I am asking national media to show solidarity to us. It is our duty to remind him when he is not protecting Raj dharma. We are suffering because of central government. We are here to unite the nation, the BJP is here to divide.”

To extend his support the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi visited, Andhra Pradesh Bhavan and met Telugu Desam Party chief.

Mr. Gandhi criticized Modi government for not fulfilling its promises, “What kind of a prime minister is this, who can’t fulfil a promise he made to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Is Andhra Pradesh not a part of this country that he is not fulfilling the commitment he made to the state? Mr. Modi has got no credibility left. I assure you, in coming days the Opposition will show BJP its true place.”

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also arrived at Chndrababu’s day-long hunger strike, where he said, “the demand of special status to Andhra Pradesh should be fulfilled without any further loss of time.”

To join in the strike many prominent political figures visited the hunger strike venue, National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah and NCP’s Majeed Memon were also present there.
