The fourth edition of the annual Kannur Beach Run (KBR) organised by the North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) was held on the Payyambalam beach on Sunday.
"We are happy to inform that this year's KBR was a success beyond our expectations," said NMCC president Vinod Narayanan.
First time
For the first time we had runners from countries in Europe and America in addition to Africa, he said adding that it was encouraging to see many of the Chamber members and prominent citizens of the region taking part in the run.
The KBR was held in three categories, namely the elite/international 10-km race for men and women above 18 years, amateur 10-km race for men and women and the health run 3-km race for men and women.
Ranjith Singh S. won the first place in the elite (men). Simion Okuwavana of Kenya was the runner-up and Nabeel Sahi M.P. won the third plance. Anjil James, Divya George and Sandra P.M. won the first, second and third places respectively in the elite (women) race.
In the amateur category Binu Peter, Sanchit and Ravikuran lifted first, second and third prizes respectively in the men's section, while Nithu V. Sruthi M.S. and Stella won the respective prizes in the women's section.
Health presence
In the health category, Sujith K.R., Darvash and Rahul secured first, second and third prizes respectively in the men's section and Sandra Adithya and Prathoona won the respective prizes in the women's category.
Foreign participants included those from the United States, Brazil, Cost Arica, Spain, France, Keny.
Army personnel from the Defence Security Corps Centre here and the Naval cadets from the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala here also participated in the event which was flagged off by Olympian Thonakkal Gopi and Mr. Narayanan. Around 1000 people participated in the run, the organisers said.
