This is the moment a plane crashed into a pile of snow after skidding onto a runway in France.

Visitors to the French ski resort of Courchevel watched as the Piper PA-46 aircraft failed to slow down before approaching the mountain of snow at the altiport in the French Alps. 

The plane reportedly had five passengers, with four of those on-board suffering from minor injuries following the incident on February 8.

The passengers were treated in a medical office nearby, reported online site RT.

Upon seeing the Piper PA-46 crash, onlookers gasped in shock and were heard shouting 'What?' during footage of the incident.

The video captures the aircraft as it lands, with its tyres squealing against the extremely slippery surface.

It is currently unclear how much damage the aircraft sustained. 

The Courchevel Altiport serves a ski resort of the same name in the French Alps and has one of the world’s shortest runways – a mini tarmac strip of 525 metres, with an upward gradient of 18.5 degrees.

The History Channel’s Most Extreme Airports show previously ranked it as the seventh most dangerous airport in the world.
