Bennett University to organise national seminar on 'Green Biotech' on February 14

Bennett University will organise the first national seminar on "Green Biotechnology and its Impact on Indian Economy" at its campus in Greater Noida on Thursday, February 14, 2019. The intent of the event is to provide a platform to various participants of the industry including producers, policy makers, academic research institutions, commercial biomass growers, traders, regulators, etc.to brainstorm on maximizing outcomes in bio-economy and bio-entrepreneurship through bio-based products and technologies.
The event will have eminent thought leaders including Acharya Balkrishna, CEO, Patanjali Ayurved; Kishore Desai, OSD, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) & NITI Aayog; Narendra Bhooshan (IAS), CEO, Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) express their views on the future and direction of the Biotech industry from strategy, planning, evangelisation and industrial application perspective.
In addition, plenary speakers from prominent biotechnology organisations, including Emami Ltd., Panacea, Dabur India Ltd., Biocon Academy, Mrida, Evolva Biotech, etc. will deliberate on theme topics to bring out gaps and opportunities in R&D and biotech education.
Green Biotechnology has come into focus dues to rapid degradation of environment caused by pollution intensive industrial processes, products and technologies. On the other hand bio-based products made entirely or partially from biological biomass present a sustainable alternative to products solely produced by conventional and non-renewable resources and thus present the potential for a long-term shift away from fossil- based towards a bio-based economy.
Bennett University has state-of-the-art infrastructure for Biotechnology research, to not only educate competent professionals but also develop environment friendly technologies in a sustainable manner. In that direction, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has funded a multi-institutional network research program to produce genetically authentic herbal biomass of high value medicinal herbs and develop engineered production platforms for industrially important phytochemicals.
The seminar is a part of the scientific collaboration between Bennett University; GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh; and the Zandu Foundation for Health Care to develop technologies for mass production of quality herbal biomass as per the needs of industry as well as creating entrepreneurial avenues among rural communities.
The seminar is expected to ignite enthusiasm and bring together different stakeholders from biotechnology industry to deliberate on maximizing entrepreneurial avenues among rural communities, right from the production of biomass to processing bio-based products and marketing. The national seminar has been structured in two sessions with expert panel discussions on;
i) Biomass Production, Bio-based Products & Rural Entrepreneurship
ii) Biotech Professionals in the 21st Century
