The much-awaited trailer of Kannada superstar Darshan’s upcoming film Yajamana was released on Sunday. While the real conflict in the 2-minute and 42-second trailer is unclear, the promo video promises an out-and-out ‘mass’ film, which is mainly whipped up to impress die-hard fans of Darshan.
The trailer begins with Darshan’s punchline that is meant to signify his growth as a star in the film industry. A rough translation of the dialogue is: “I built my own brand by working my tail off. Hence, the sound is always loud.”
It is not a warning to his rivals in the film but to those who may criticise the movie, saying “it was too loud.” Debutant director V Harikrishna forewarns the audience as to what’s in store. Going by the trailer, it is a formulaic film for fans and not for anybody who is not a fan.
In the film, Darshan is Shankar Dev, a worshiper of Lord Shiva. Rashmika Mandanna plays Radhika. Thakur Anoop Singh as Arjun Prajwal seems to be the cliched villain of commercial cinema.
Judging from the trailer, he is a narcissistic businessman, who runs his business in India from abroad. It is the second time he is playing this character since his screen debut with Si3 aka Singam 3.
Even with the high chance that this film could be just another star-vehicle, the trailer promises some dramatic tension that could give the audiences their money’s worth. One of the main reasons could be Dhananjay’s performance. You remember him from Tagaru, right?
Music composer Harikrishna is making his directorial debut with this film. He has co-directed the movie along with P Kumar of Vishnuvardhana fame. Harikrishna has also scored the music for the film, which has already received a good response from Kannada cine fans.
The film was in production for more than a year, and the post-production work is fast nearing completion.
Yajamana will hit the screens on March 1.
