General Motors is adding the former CEO of a global aerospace and defense giant to its board of directors.
The automaker said Monday that Wes Bush, chairman of the Northrop Grumman Corp. board of directors, will become a director, expanding the size of the board to 13.
GM CEO Mary Barra, in a statement, said Bush brings "a strong track record of creating shareholder value in a complex manufacturing enterprise known for its advanced engineering and technology" to the automaker's board.
"He will bring strong financial acumen, excellent strategic instincts and an ability to think broadly about complex business issues to our board," said Barra, who also is GM chairman.
Bush, 57, was CEO of Northrop Grumman from 2010 through 2018 has been chairman since 2011. Before 2010, he held leadership roles with Northrop Grumman including president and COO, corporate vice president and CFO, and president of the space technology unit.
Bush also held various leadership roles at TRW before its acquisition by Northrop Grumman in 2001, according to GM.
The addition of Bush to the board comes as GM seeks to better leverage and expand GM Defense, a new military defense division focused on fuel cell technologies.
Bush is the third member to join GM's board since April. He follows Devin Wenig, president and CEO of e-commerce giant eBay, and Jami Miscik, CEO and vice chairman of Kissinger Associates, a New York geopolitical consulting firm.
