After Mumbai saw its coldest February day in seven years on Saturday, the city witnessed much warmer conditions throughout Monday. The maximum temperature recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruz station Monday evening was 35.1 degrees Celsius, which is 4 degrees Celsius above normal. The maximum temperature recorded a day before was 32.3 degrees Celsius, which was 1.2 degrees Celsius above normal.
The city’s temperature on Saturday was 11 degrees Celsius, while on Friday, the maximum temperature fell to the lowest this decade for the month at 24.2 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, the minimum temperature recorded by the Santacruz station was 15.4 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees Celsius below the normal. Meanwhile, the relative humidity recorded in the evening was 32 per cent. The minimum temperature recorded on Sunday was 15.4 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba station recorded minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The weather bureau has predicted the minimum temperature will hover around 16 degrees Celsius.
The weather bureau predicted that the temperature is likely to rise in the coming days. The wind pattern during the early hours of the day and towards the evening was northerly, while during the day it was north-westerly with intense sunlight and a clear sky, which has led to a rise in temperatures.
Meanwhile, the overall air quality index was 269, which falls in the poor category. This was the fourth consecutive day of air quality remaining in the poor category.
