SAMBALPUR: The integrated complex bringing all the offices of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Sambalpur Development Authority (SDA) under one roof will be ready by the end of this year.
The building being constructed on the bank of river Mahanadi at Durgapali area is designed on the lines of the landmark Hirakud Dam, Deputy Commissioner of SMC Sudhansu Kumar Bhoi said. To be constructed at a cost of Rs 20 crore, the first phase involves completion of the four-storied building. Landscaping, development of parking area and other related infrastructure work will be undertaken in the second phase. The complex would span an area of 4.5 acre, Bhoi said.
Work on the project had begun in November, 2017 and was targeted to be completed in two years.
Presently, the SMC office is operating from the old Sambalpur Municipality building and does not have sufficient space to accommodate all sections of the civic body. The existing Municipality building was constructed in the year 1927.
Similarly, the SDA office is presently operating from a small building at Saliabagicha in the city. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid foundation stone of the building on November 22, 2016.
