Do your politics but don't 'insult' our martyrs: Rajyavardhan Rathore to Rahul Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Sunday lashed out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Indian Air Force (IAF) pilots.

Responding to the Congress president's comments that Rs 30,000 crore could be given to families of IAF pilots when they die, Rathore said that Rahul Gandhi has "insulted" the military.

In a video message posted on Twitter, the Union minister said, "You (Rahul) don't know anything about our military. During the game of press conferences that you play in Delhi every day, you have disrespected our military. Anybody who is born on this soil knows that we respect and honour our military and martyrs. Our soldiers fight for our own country, they don't fight for money. Our soldiers fight for self-respect and to save our country."

He further said, "You do your politics but do not insult our military and martyrs. And I am saying this as a soldier."

On February 8, addressing a press conference on the Rafale deal, Rahul Gandhi had said, "Rs 30,000 crore were given to Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence in the Rafale deal. This could be given to you (pilots) when you die in a plane crash."

The Congress president was referring to a newspaper report which claimed that the ministry of defence had objected to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) negotiating with the French government over the price of Rafale aircraft.
