NEW DELHI: A day ahead of her Lucknow visit, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the UP and Uttarakhand governments for shielding those involved in the illicit liquor trade.
“Sad and stunned by the deaths... in Uttarakhand and UP due to illicit liquor. This is condemnable. It couldn’t have been imagined that the trade of illicit liquor flourished at such a large scale in the two states,” Priyanka said in a statement.
She said the state governments must take action against the guilty. Both states are ruled by the BJP.
Priyanka, who was recently made AICC in charge of UP East, is set for a mega roadshow along with her brother and party chief Rahul Gandhi and AICC in charge for UP west Jyotiraditya Scindia in Lucknow on Monday.
Both Priyanka and Scindia made an appeal to voters to support the Congress, which they said was trying to bring a set of fresh ideas to state politics marred by caste and religious issues. After the Monday show, Priyanka will remain in Lucknow and hold consultations with various party leaders to work out a poll campaign.
