LED lights: MC chief orders firm to pick up pace
TNN | Feb 11, 2019, 06:51 ISTLudhiana: Taking note of slow pace of work of replacing ordinary street lights with LED lights, MC commissioner K P Brar has issued instructions to the company allotted the work to pick up pace in all zones of city from Monday onwards.
She conducted a meeting with representatives of the company and asked them to deploy staff of 25 persons in each zone and complete the work in given time period. She also said the company would be penalised if it does not deliver work.
The work had started on November 6 last year and as of now only a few selected areas have been covered under this project. In the MC General House meeting on February 4, the councilors had also raised hue and cry over nonfunctional street lights in their wards.
Though the commissioner had earlier said that the work would commence in each zone by February 15, but she asked the company to do it from Monday onwards during a meeting on Saturday.
Brar said, “The company representatives are working too slowly and if we don’t not pull it up, then it will be difficult to complete the work on time.” She said she would conduct a review meeting again in the next week to see whether they have increased the pace of work or not.
Notably, this project has been started under Smart City Mission and over 1 lakh ordinary lights are to be replaced with LED lights. The project is supposed to be completed by May 2019. Civic authorities are hopeful to get some relief from hefty power bills and people hope to get better lighting on city roads.
