YAMNUNAGAR: A 19-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl were electrocuted to death in the wee hours on Sunday on the rooftop of an under-construction house in Shiv Nagar of Farakpur area of Yamunanagar. The two lived in the same neighbourhood had come to the roof to meet when they came in contact with the high tension wires passing close to the house, police said.
Police said, “The house of the boy, identified as Sunny, is nearly 100 metres away from the rooftop where the incident happened, while the house of the girl is closer. As all the roofs of the houses in the area touch upon each other, the man could have reached here easily.”
The incident happened in the wee hours when they were meeting on the rooftop and suddenly the pair was pulled by the high tension wires passing just a few feet from the rooftop. After receiving the information, the police team reached the spot for inspection.
Inspector Sunil Kumar told TOI, “They were found dead on the rooftop of an under-construction house. Primary investigation shows that they have died due to the electric shock as the high tension wires pass through the rooftop. We could gauge from the scene that they had come in contact with the wires. So far, we have not received any complaint from any one.”
The postmortems of the deceased have been conducted and bodies handed over to the family members, he added.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of Yamunanagar Municipal Corporation. Local residents have often demanded that the power lines be shifted away from houses but to no avail. When contacted, Madan Chauhan said TOI, “The incident is not in my knowledge. I would visit the area and the high tension wires would be shifted to a safer distance from the houses.”
