Indore: Transgenders are opting for hair transplant in a big way. A study by International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeries released in 2017 states that number of transgenders who opted for hair transplant went up by 27.3 percent in 2016. This was stated by cosmetologist Dr Shuken Dashore while talking to Free Press on Sunday.
“There is an overall increase in number of hair transplants taking place across the globe,” he said talking on the sidelines of Haircon-2019. According to Dr Dashore, most of transgender hair transplants are done in New Delhi.
It requires more expertise as the hormonal nature of their body is different. The number is negligible in Madhya Pradesh but inquiries for it have increased,” he remarked. The study also states that the total market size of hair restoration surgery increased by 64 percent worldwide from 2014 and 2016. In monetary terms, the market cap of hair restoration surgeries has increased from 2.4 billion USD to 4.1 billion USD in two years.
“When it comes to India, the hair restoration is evolving. Currently, we have a market of Rs 240 million and it is believed to increase to Rs 400 million approximately in next two years,” Dr Dashore said. The study also stated that more than 6.35 lakh hair restoration cases took place in 2016 globally out of which 1.95 lakh procedures were in Asia. Dr Dashore presented research paper for increasing growth plasma in blood for better results in hair grow procedure at Haircon- 2019, the two-day conference on hair restoration that concluded on Sunday.
