BENGALURU: Four members of a gang who allegedly escaped with cash and mobile phones after barging into a house in Cubbonpet and injuring a woman on Monday, were arrested by Halasuru Gate police. Two of their associates are still at large.

The arrested have been identified as localities, but their names have been withheld by the police. Based on CCTV footage, the police immediately nabbed two of the accused, who later revealed the names of their accomplices. They were speaking Kannada when they targeted the women inside a house.

A police officer said the culprits had barged inside the house in broad daylight and attacked three women to rob two mobile phones.  One of the victims, Vinitha, had come to her mother’s house in Cubbonpet along with her newborn for the latter’s naming ceremony. The family members were waiting for guests at around 4.30pm when the gang of six men barged inside as the main door was kept open. They dragged Vinitha into the living room while her mother and a domestic help were pinned down by five armed men.

The accused threatened to kill the baby and demanded that the victims hand over gold and other valuables. The women tried to resist, following which the accused stabbed Vinitha’s wrist with a knife and later ransacked the house. When they did not find anything they snatched two mobile phones worth Rs 20,000 and fled. Vinitha was admitted to the hospital. Later, she approached Halasuru Gate police and filed a case.
