These are Agarata City Level Federation (CLF) and Sapatha Area Level Federation (ALF) of Berhampur, both formed under the Urban Livelihood Mission (ULM).
They will be presented the awards in New Delhi on February 15, said Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore.
According to sources, 28 ALFs and four CLFs from across the country have been selected for the prestigious award this year. Out of them one CLF (Berhampur) and two ALFs (Berhampur and Balasore) will be honoured for their involvement in various cleanliness and sanitation initiatives as well as ULM.
These two federations were selected after the ministry verified the facts submitted by the BeMC in October last year. “We have submitted all relevant documents to the ministry through the state government to compete in the prestigious competition and after scrutiny, two federations of Berhampur bagged the awards,” he said. The ministry has not mentioned the cash awards in the invitation letters to the SHGs asking them to attend the award ceremony.
One CLF and 120 ALFs are functioning in BeMC area. One ALF comprises 10 to 20 women SHGs, the CLF comprises over 60 ALFs. The Agarata City Level Federation (CLF) has over 7,120 members, said nodal community organiser of BeMC Geetanjali Samantaray.
She said the executive bodies of CLF and ALFs meet regularly to chalk out plans to undertake cleanliness drive, stopping open defection and training people in different livelihood progrmmes. The members have been actively participating in many cleanliness initiatives while maintaining 40 community-based toilets in different areas of the city, said the commissioner.
Berhampur, was the first corporation in the state to be declared ODF on October 2, 2018. “We are very happy as our federation has been selected for the award,”said Swagatika Sahu, vice-chairperson of Agarata City Level Federation (CLF).
The award is a recognition of our labour, added Anita Majhi, secretary of the federation.
