San Francisco’s Bay Bridge has a reputation for getting shut down by street racers and it appears that trend has spread to an unlikely place – Nashville, Tennessee.
According to local ABC affiliate WKRN, I-24 was effectively shutdown on Saturday night by a handful of drivers who used the interstate to perform stunts near the Old Hickory Boulevard exit.
As you can see in a Facebook video, a number of vehicles stopped on I-24 and blocked the shoulders to prevent traffic for passing through their makeshift roadblock. The camera then pans to the roadway itself and shows it is covered by tire marks indicating the interstate was used to performance a number of donuts and other stunts.
About halfway through the clip, a silver Nissan Z pulls to the front and begins performing a burn out. The car then does a donut or two, before backing up onto the shoulder to continue blocking traffic.
There’s no word on how long the shutdown lasted, but the video shows a massive traffic backup.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol and Nashville Police Department haven’t said much about the incident, but the station says an official with the Highway Patrol called the episode a “blatant disregard for public safety.”
While the video is pretty grainy, it might prove helpful to police as at least one of the vehicles involved in the incident is pretty distinctive. We’re talking about the white pickup truck which features massive wheels, a green illuminated grille and green underbody lights. If police are able to catch up with the owner of the truck, it could lead to others involved in the incident.
