HYDERABAD: A day after a pair of artery forceps was removed from her abdomen, Maheshwari Chowdary (33) complained of mild pain on Sunday. The forceps were left inside her abdomen during a surgery at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) that took place over three months ago.
Panjagutta police on Sunday said that they would write to the State Health department to constitute a committee to inquire into the matter and the alleged medical negligence.

Maheshwari’s husband Harshvardhan said that the surgical team at NIMS had left the forceps in her abdominal cavity during a surgery performed on November 2, 2018. NIMS Director Dr K Manohar earlier said that they found artery forceps in her abdomen when X-Ray examination was conducted on Saturday morning.

It was removed by performing another surgery. The director said that internal organs did not get injured. A three-member internal committee has been formed to inquire into the issue. They will begin their probe on Monday.
