NAGPUR: Unidentified burglars decamped with cash Rs2 lakh from activist advocate Vipin Bower’s office at Medical Chowk. The burglary came to fore on Saturday when the advocate was alerted by a neighbour.
The burglars had locked up a second floor apartment before going to Bower’s office in an apartment on the third floor. The door, which had an internal central locking system, was forcibly pushed open. The door was pushed with such force that the locking system had been damaged.
Bower said the drawer in which the cash was kept had been opened. “The drawer seemed to have been opened with a key, which is surprising. The involvement of an insider cannot be ruled out,” he said.
The office was locked on Friday by Bower’s attorney Darshana Pande. “We do not have CCTV. There is a guard for the ATM on the ground floor, who goes to sleep at 2.30am. The incident may have taken place after he went to sleep,” said Bower.
An offence was registered at Imambada police station after a complaint by Bower.
In the other incident, which also came to fore on Saturday, Sajjanwar family lost valuables worth Rs1.19 lakh including cash Rs39,000 from their residence at Itwari. Omprakash Sajjanwar, a practising homoeopath, had gone to Yavatmal to attend a programme on Friday. He discovered the home had been ransacked when he returned.
Police said fingerprints have been collected from the almirah from which the burglars managed to decamp with gold valuables. An offence of burglary was registered at Lakadganj police station.
